FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Well, besides procrastinate and get easily distracted, I am a signwriter. All of my work is hand drawn and hand painted using traditional signwriting techniques.  I don't use software to design my signs, it'll me and a trusty pencil! (The only exception to this would be if I'm painting a large body of text in a standard typeface, which I'll print out rather than handdraw just to save time.)

I'll draw out my designs on paper and then transfer to the surface using chalk and my trusy pencil again and my straight lines are all my own - i use a steady hand rather than masking tape.

I use predominantly signwriting enamel paints, which are oil based and are really hardwearing so can be used outside (they're the same paints used on canal boats, fairground rides and pinstriping on vehicles)

Where possible I paint

You'll see in my portfolio, I also build models and can make anything out of cardboard (something time travel related is a bonus) so if you have an idea for something and need a creative eye for some support just give me a shout!

Just get in touch!

It would be really helpful if you could have a think about what sort of size you would like, wording, style, where the piece is going to live - bonus if you have some pictures for inspiration! I will guide you through the design process & put together a few ideas on paper for you and sample blocks if needed.  Just bear in mind this isn't always a quick process and more complex pieces will take longer - this is because I do everything by hand, from prepping (I will prime and sand a few times before getting to the fun bit!) and the lettering itself which will need time to dry between layers.  For big pieces allow a few weeks and let me know if you have a deadline you're working to.

I will usually ask for a deposit of 30% in advance of starting the work and the remainder on completion - this may change depending on the nature of the work.

I'D LIKE TO COMMISSION YOU TO PAINT SOMETHING FOR ME, WHAT DO I DO?

I'VE BOUGHT ONE OF YOUR SIGNS, HOW DO I CARE FOR IT?

All of my signs can be wiped down with a damp cloth - mdf signs need to be kept inside.  If you have an outdoor sign, try to keep it sheltered from extremes in weather and particularly in the case of A-Frames try to dry off if there has been heavy rain.

WHAT EXACTLY IS IT YOU DO?!
